In the baking sunshine, Salford Red Devils registered a Betfred Super League Rivals Round victory against Leigh Leopards. Easter is always a highlight of the rugby league calendar. Today’s encounter would normally be the first of two Super League fixtures this weekend, but a change of schedule means we’ve now got five days to reset and prepare for the visit of Castleford Tigers next Thursday. It was clear quite early on that Salford was intent on playing quick and our first set gained massive metres via the ruck speed of Andy Ackers. After both sides traded sets, a dropped ball on halfway allowed Leigh an opportunity to build their first meaningful attack. Lachlan Lam received the ball around 30 metres out...

GMP News: Operation Vulcan

Image
Operation Vulcan has repurposed and recycled over 300 tonnes of counterfeit items Operation Vulcan was implemented in November 2022 to crack down on the criminality in the area which has blighted the communities of Cheetham Hill and Strangeways for decades. This has exposed children to serious violence and subjecting honest business owners to extortion. The counterfeit shops are just the tip of the iceberg with many customers perceiving these bargains as a victimless crime. Unfortunately, these cash-only businesses have resulted in hundreds of thousands of pounds being funnelled into the criminal market, funding the drug trade, firearms, exploitation, and money laundering. Six months on, and police have shut down over 100 counterfeit shops. However the most asked question is: ‘Where does all this stuff go?’ A top priority for Operation Vulcan was to minimise waste and make sure the counterfeit items could be put to better use. Working with a specialist company, Lighthouse Security,...

GMP: Cocaine dealer rumbled by Salford's anti-gang cops

Image
A cocaine dealer from Weaste has been jailed after GMP's anti-gang cops in Salford caught him in a car with ketamine, before they went on to uncover the raft of class A, B, and C drugs he intended to sell. What happened then? Luke Oliver (28) became the latest to be rumbled by officers from our Operation Naseby disruption taskforce that has helped drive down shootings in the city by over 70% since its inception two years ago after 300 arrests, over 300 car seizures, nearly 130 house searches, and around 50kilos of drugs recovered. Manchester Crown Court heard how Oliver was spotted by patrols in Weaste in April in a vehicle linked to a cannabis dealer who the Op Naseby team had recently helped to jail. Officers stopped the black Volkswagen Golf and spotted cash and observed that Oliver – the sole occupant of the car – appeared nervous and looked as though he had taken drugs. During a subsequent search of the vehicle – under section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act – they found fiv...
