Football: Lincoln City 4 - 2 Bolton Wanderers

Image
Lincoln all but ended Bolton’s play-off ambitions on Easter Monday. This was achieved with a pulsating 4-2 win at the LNER Stadium, where veteran striker James Collins struck twice. Author - Sophie T Erik Ring and Reeco Hackett were also on the scoresheet for the hosts. Jay Matete and Alex Murphy replied for Bolton, who slipped to a fourth straight defeat at the worst possible time. The Imps took an early lead when Ring’s inswinging cross, delivered from a short corner routine, sailed through a crowded box and nestled into the far corner of Nathan Baxter’s net. Ben House went close to doubling the advantage, but Baxter saved well from his flicked effort. Moments later, Lincoln were awarded a penalty after Ethan Erhahon was bundled over by David Abimbola.  Collins then stepped up and lashed the spot-kick into the roof of the net to make it 2-0 after just 17 minutes. Bolton's play-offs dented again Bolton Wanderers' hopes of securing a play-off place took another hit as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Wycombe, extending their difficult run of form to three straight losses. Author - Sophie T Steven Schumacher's side struggled to create clear chances at the Toughsheet Community Stadium and failed to register a single shot on target over the 90 minutes. The result leaves Wanderers outside the top six with just three matches remaining and puts serious pressure on their promotion ambitions. A frustrating afternoon took a further turn when former Bolton loanee Caleb Taylor, who scored a late winner for Wycombe the previous weekend, returned to haunt his old side. The defender opened the scoring in the 58th minute, rising highest to head home from Luke Leahy’s well-delivered free-kick. Bolton Wanderers were left frustrated after narrow defeat to Rotherham They suffered a frustrating evening at the Toughsheet Community Stadium as a dominant performance failed to yield a result, with Rotherham United snatching a 1-0 win through Sam Nombe's early strike. Author - Mark Lee The visitors took full advantage of their only clear-cut chance, capitalising on a misplaced pass from Gethin Jones in the 11th minute. Nombe finished clinically to give the Millers the lead against the run of play. From that moment on, it was one-way traffic as Bolton relentlessly pressed forward in search of an equaliser. Despite creating numerous opportunities, Wanderers were repeatedly denied by an inspired performance from Rotherham goalkeeper Cameron Dawson. Author - Amy W The Bolton defender bundled home from a corner in the third minute of added time, securing Bolton’s first win against Wigan since an FA Cup tie in January 2015. Tensions boiled over in the aftermath, with heated exchanges in the technical area leading to Wigan manager Ryan Lowe being shown a red card, while goalkeeping coach Andy Lonergan received a yellow. Bolton settled into the game quicker, with Joel Randall’s shot deflected just past the far post by former Wanderers defender Will Aimson. Wigan had a golden opportunity of their own when Maleace Asamoah found space in the box, but he failed to direct his free header on target from Jonny Smith’s cross. Stockport keep their automatic promotion hopes alive Isaac Olaofe scored a spectacular winner as Stockport beat Bolton to earn a double over their League One play-off rivals. Author - Josh T A huge away following from Stockport at the Toughsheet Community Stadium Wanderers, thrashed 5-0 earlier in the season, sensed little danger when Olaofe collected the ball on the left wing. However, the striker turned away from Eoin Toal before racing into the area and firing past Nathan Baxter for his 10th goal of the season after 71 minutes. Until then, Baxter, omitted from Bolton's previous 12 league games, celebrated his recall with superb saves from Benony Andresson, Kyle Wootton and Jayden Fevrier. Wanderers, who were beaten for the second time in five days, rallied late on but Josh Sheehan and top scorer Aaron Collins were denied by Stockport goalkeeper Corey Addai. A potentially huge three points for Bolton John McAtee played a starring role as Bolton Wanderers kept their League One play-off push alive with a crucial victory over struggling Shrewsbury Town. Author - Mark Lee Vadaine Oliver had given the hosts an early lead, but Bolton hit back through Eoin Toal before McAtee’s brilliant brace secured all three points. Luca Hoole’s late strike set up a tense finale, but the Trotters held on to claim a vital win. Shrewsbury broke the deadlock in the 20th minute when John Marquis’ close-range effort rattled the crossbar, allowing Oliver to react quickest and slot home. Bolton came close to an equaliser just before the break, with McAtee meeting Aaron Collins’ cross, but his header was pushed behind for a corner. Oliver nearly doubled Shrewsbury’s lead moments after half-time, only for his header to be cleared away. Bolton Wanderers 2 - 2 Cambridge United

The pressure remains on Bolton boss Ian Evatt Zeno Ibsen Rossi's last-minute own goal allowed Bolton to escape with a lucky 2-2 draw against Cambridge at the Toughsheet Community Stadium. Author - Amy W Despite salvaging a point, Wanderers' fans continued to chant for the dismissal of manager Ian Evatt at the final whistle. Prior to Rossi deflecting skipper George Thomason's cross past goalkeeper Marko Marosi, it seemed like former Bolton player Elias Kachunga might be the hero for the visitors. Kachunga assisted on-loan Bristol City midfielder Josh Stokes, who scored his first league goal for Garry Monk's struggling side just four minutes into the match. Bolton equalized against the run of play half an hour later when Szabolcs Schon delivered a cross from the left, and John McAtee slid in to score.
