Steven Schumacher's side struggled to create clear chances at the Toughsheet Community Stadium and failed to register a single shot on target over the 90 minutes. The result leaves Wanderers outside the top six with just three matches remaining and puts serious pressure on their promotion ambitions.

A frustrating afternoon took a further turn when former Bolton loanee Caleb Taylor, who scored a late winner for Wycombe the previous weekend, returned to haunt his old side. The defender opened the scoring in the 58th minute, rising highest to head home from Luke Leahy’s well-delivered free-kick.

Leahy then turned scorer deep into stoppage time, driving the ball past Nathan Baxter in the 94th minute to seal all three points for the visitors and underline Bolton's woes.

The first half offered little in the way of excitement, with neither goalkeeper called into meaningful action. Bolton were forced into an early change when Jordi Osei-Tutu went off injured, disrupting the team’s rhythm and contributing to a disjointed display.

While Wycombe's win moved them into the automatic promotion places, Bolton are left needing a swift turnaround in results to keep their season alive. With time running out, Wanderers must find form quickly if they are to avoid missing out on the play-offs altogether.

Frank said: "That’s the league done for another year. I can’t see that Schumacher has done any better than Evatt, which points to the quality of the players being the real issue. Time to take a good, long look at the squad, get the pruning shears out, and make way for some new blood."

Geoff added: "A lot of this squad just aren't good enough for League One, never mind the Championship. Ian Evatt built this group, so Steven Schumacher needs the freedom to move players on and bring in his own. Hopefully, we’ll see more fight and professionalism from his side when they run out in August. Well done to Wycombe – I hope you hang on to second place."
