Food: Best place for a pizza in Manchester

If there’s one thing Manchester does well (aside from music, football, and rain), it’s pizza.

From the depths of Chorlton to the arches of the city centre, you’re never too far from a spot serving up something hot, cheesy, and straight out of the oven.

Whether you're after a proper Neapolitan base, vegan-friendly toppings, or a cheeky slice after a few drinks, this city has it covered.

But with so many choices, picking the right one can feel like a bit of a minefield. Do you go classic or creative? Sit-down or grab-and-go? Thankfully, we’ve done the hard work (and a fair bit of eating) to narrow it down. Here are some of the best pizza places Manchester has to offer.

Here’s our list of top picks:

Voodoo Ray’s at Escape to Freight Island

The first outpost outside of London for these slice-slingers. We’re into it. One recent visitor said: "I ordered A slice of the Queen Vegan pizza, which was beautiful tbh. The dough was light and crispy and topped with artichoke, olives, pesto etc. Simply stunning food.

Double Zero (Chorlton)

This much-loved neighbourhood favourite serves authentic Neapolitan-style pizza and has earned a reputation as one of the best in the UK.

Franco Manca

Once a Brixton Market secret, now a staple across the UK. Their sourdough bases and seasonal toppings have found a solid fanbase in Manchester.

One Google review said: "It was a lovely thin and soft pizza with a crispy crust. There was also the best cheese and sauce! The staff are so friendly and accommodating and the overall atmosphere is also really nice."

Rudy’s Pizza

Born as a tiny pop-up, Rudy’s has grown into a word-of-mouth phenomenon, and it’s not hard to see why. Proper wood-fired goodness, and ranked among the world’s best.

One recent visitor told us: "This place is fantastic. They sell incredibly tasty pizza. The soft dough is topped with quality ingredients."

Purezza

Entirely vegan and loaded with creative toppings, Purezza is proof that plant-based pizza can be just as indulgent. There's plenty of gluten-free options too.

One friend told us: "As a vegan on a trip to Manchester, I had to try this place again, and I was not disappointed. We came with some non-vegan friends who were very impressed with every dish that we ordered!

Liam C added: "We had the Hot Agave Pizza that was just fantastic. The spicy/sweet combination is one of my favourite things on pizzas. This was delivered perfectly. "
