Football: Manchester City 0 - 2 Liverpool
An interesting Sunday afternoon at the Etihad Stadium
Liverpool moved a step closer to the title whilst Manchester City's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League were dented.

Manchester City started the match brightly, but they were caught off guard by a clever corner routine from Liverpool after just 14 minutes. Mohamed Salah scored his 30th goal of the season after Dominik Szoboszlai set up the play with a delivery from Alex Mac Allister.
Just eight minutes before halftime, Salah returned the favor by providing a perfectly weighted pass for Szoboszlai, who calmly finished low past City goalkeeper Ederson.
In the second half, Liverpool managed to secure their important win without any major concerns, choosing to protect the lead they had built during the first 45 minutes.
This felt very much like the 2024 Premier League champions were passing the baton onto the champions elect of 2025.

City fan reaction
After the match, we caught up with three different Manchester City fans who all offered their analysis of the match. The key theme of what they were saying was basically, where do we go from here?
Molly Hornby: "Same old story for City at home – no creativity in midfield, overcomplicated build-up play, shaky defending, and a real lack of leadership on the pitch (and arguably off it too). Liverpool were a class above and barely looked troubled all game. It’s painful to see how much Kevin De Bruyne’s form has dipped. And the big issue no one seems to be addressing… I’m not convinced Pep Guardiola has the mindset or ability to move beyond the now outdated tiki-taka style. It was revolutionary in its day, but that era has passed."

Lewis Francis: "We just needed to put the ball in the net. We controlled the game, but leaving too many players forward made us vulnerable to counter-attacks.
Robbie Wookey: "A sad reminder of how far we’ve fallen. At least six or seven players need to be moved on. This is 100% on Pep – he’s failed to sign full-backs who could make a real difference. The days when we dominated 90% of games in the opposition half and barely needed a defence are long gone."
