The hosts were first over the try-line after 7 minutes – Toby King weaving through a gap in the Salford defensive line to go over towards the left of the sticks.

Just before the half-way mark of the first forty, King scored again in a similar position to his first to extend the Wire’s lead.

In the 27th minute, Ryan Brierley saw yellow for holding down at the play-the-ball, five minutes before Matty Ashton dived over in the left corner for Warrington.

Brierley returned from the sin-bin in the 37th minute and set up Ken Sio in the corner two minutes later, finding the winger with a neat grubber kick.

Warrington struck again five minutes into the second forty through Joe Philbin, who crashed over under the sticks.

Andy Ackers put Salford back on the scoreboard 10 minutes later, scooting over to the right of the posts from dummy half.

Ashton doubled his try tally for the night in the 65th minute, with an acrobatic dive to ground the ball in the left corner again.

King made it a hat-trick of tries with seven minutes to go, punishing Salford down that left flank once more.

Brierley slid over down Warrington’s left to score a consolation try right before the hooter that signalled the end of the game.

One Salford fan tweeted in response: " Good start to the season but by game 9 we''re back into the relegation fight. Nothing changes our pack is not very good, and can't defend."
