The Bolton defender bundled home from a corner in the third minute of added time, securing Bolton’s first win against Wigan since an FA Cup tie in January 2015.

Tensions boiled over in the aftermath, with heated exchanges in the technical area leading to Wigan manager Ryan Lowe being shown a red card, while goalkeeping coach Andy Lonergan received a yellow.

Bolton settled into the game quicker, with Joel Randall’s shot deflected just past the far post by former Wanderers defender Will Aimson. Wigan had a golden opportunity of their own when Maleace Asamoah found space in the box, but he failed to direct his free header on target from Jonny Smith’s cross.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Bolton enjoying the better of the play but struggling to break down a resolute Wigan defence. George Thomason forced a fine save from Sam Tickle with a powerful long-range effort, while Aaron Collins looked certain to score, only for his strike to take a crucial deflection and go behind for a corner.

Just as it seemed the game was heading for a stalemate, Wigan failed to clear their lines, and Forino was on hand to turn in the winner—sparking wild celebrations among the travelling support and fury on the home touchline.

Jamie, a Bolton fan from Cardiff, posted the following comment on a different match report: "Dreadful game really between two sides lacking confidence after poor runs. However, the welcome win was just about deserved and breaking the Wigan curse could jolt us back into play-off contention."

Frank, a Wigan fan, told us: "Really annoying to lose that amazing run that we've had against Bolton but it had to end eventually. That wasn't a great performance from us really. We could do with the season ending, so we can start planning for the next campaign."
