Almost an unchanged squad for Wigan

For the third game running, the Wigan Athletic boss picked an unchanged starting side. The only alteration in the entire squad saw Dion Rankine come in for former Joe Hungbo on the bench.

How the game started and how Wigan took the lead

After a relatively dour first half-hour in Wigan, Latics effectively took control of the match. First, Maleace Asamoah had an effort saved by Dillon Phillips.

The Millers goalkeeper was left helpless nine minutes before the interval, as Owen Dale’s deep corner was met by Carragher, who headed in at the far post.

Rotherham almost hit back immediately when Joe Powell’s free-kick found Mallik Wilks, but the forward could only nod wide from a promising central position.

Sam Tickle then produced an excellent save on the stroke of half-time to preserve Wigan’s lead, blocking Sam Nombe’s close-range effort.

The home side saw the game out with relative ease

That proved to be one of Rotherham’s final attacking threats, with Asamoah drawing a save in the second half before substitute Jonny Smith sent two attempts off target.

How the fans responded after the match.

One Season Ticket holder told us: "A solid win and performance from the team. It hasn't been the best season but being assured of survival is something to celebrate at this stage."

Marcus, another Wigan fan, added: "We are staying up! This was the absolute minimum that we expected this season. We badly need to improve our consistency next season."
