In a rematch of last season’s Challenge Cup final, the Warriors produced a clinical display in the first-ever Super League fixture on American soil, taking control early and never looking back.

After an early Warrington try was ruled out, it was Wigan who struck first through Tyler Dupree. Abbas Miski then finished brilliantly in the corner before Bevan French and Harry Smith ensured Matt Peet’s side went into the break with a dominant 24-0 lead.

The second half saw Jai Field, Jake Wardle and Luke Thompson put the result beyond doubt, before Warrington salvaged some pride with late scores from Arron Lindop, James Harrison and Matt Dufty. Liam Marshall added an eighth try for Wigan before Matty Ashton’s length-of-the-field effort rounded off the scoring.

The victory lifts Wigan to fourth in the early Super League standings, ahead of Warrington on points difference, and hands Sam Burgess’ Wolves their first defeat of the season.

A closer look at what happened

Warrington initially thought they had opened the scoring when Toby King collected a high kick and touched down, only for video referee Liam Moore to rule that he had been tackled before grounding the ball.

Wigan then immediately turned the screw. Marshall went close in the corner before Dupree powered over after a Warrington mistake under the high ball. Miski’s acrobatic finish extended the lead, and from there, the Warriors put on a show.

French pounced on a loose ball to grab Wigan’s third before turning provider for Smith to crash in under the posts. Early in the second half, Marshall’s quick hands sent Field racing clear to score.

Wigan’s dominance continued with Wardle strolling in after a slick move, before French and Field combined again to set up Thompson. At 42-0, the game was over as a contest.
