Football: Wigan Atheltic 1 - 0 Cambridge United
Robinson's late strike seals vital win for Wigan
Luke Robinson came off the bench to score a late winner as Wigan Athletic edged past struggling Cambridge United, securing a crucial three points at the DW Stadium.
Robinson struck with just 13 minutes remaining, capitalising on a rebound to move the Latics 10 points clear of the relegation zone, while leaving Cambridge still firmly entrenched in trouble and 10 points from safety.
The game’s first real chance fell to Wigan’s Dale Taylor, who failed to connect cleanly with a volley after Baba Adeeko nodded down an early cross from Luke Chambers — making his return to the side after five months out.
Cambridge soon threatened themselves when Dom Ballard weaved his way through the Wigan defence, only to be denied by a superb low save from Sam Tickle.

Taylor again came close for the hosts, narrowly missing a cross from James Carragher, before Cambridge’s James Brophy curled a left-footed strike just over the bar.
Jonny Smith managed two good chances for Wigan, cutting in off the right, only to see his first effort fly past the post and the second one was saved by Nathan Bishop.
However, that keeper was unable to prevent Wigan picking up an important win when he could only parry a long-range shot from Adeeko, and Robinson followed up to net from a yard.
