Football: Man United fans plan further protest against ownership
Manchester United fans have once again been urged to wear black to protest against the ownership of their club.
This idea has come from a significant supporters group, the 1958, who have told fans to wear black when they attend Sunday's match against Arsenal at Old Trafford.

A spokesperson for the ground said: “The club is slowly dying before our eyes, on and off the pitch, and the blame lies squarely at the current ownership model. The club is facing financial Armageddon. Debt is the road to ruin."
In recent months, several cost-cutting and fundraising measures have been implemented following Sir Jim Ratcliffe's INEOS group completing a minority share purchase of 27.7% on February 20 of last year. These measures include the recent decision to set all ticket prices at £66, regardless of age, as well as two rounds of redundancies.
Ruben Amorim took over from Ten Hag in October, but there has been no improvement in the team's performance. The latest setback was a defeat to Fulham in a penalty shootout during the FA Cup on Sunday.
This upcoming protest marks the second successive week of fan protest at Old Trafford. United fans recently joined the Football Supporters Association's "Stop Exploiting Loyalty" campaign over ticket prices (see image above).
The Glazer family: A brief history of protest
This isn't the first time United fans have worn black to symbolise a dislike of the Glazer family. It happened in the first official game after the takeover, the 2005 FA Cup Final against Arsenal.
The Big Discussion: The Fight for the Soul of Manchester United
Five years later, the fans went in a different direction and the green and gold campaign was born. These were the colours of Newton Heath. This protest happened when United were dominating English football and had reached two successive Champions League finals.

At the same of the takeover, some fans went a step further and formed their own football club. FC United of Manchester was born as an alternative for fans of Manchester United that felt they couldn't attend Old Trafford with the current ownership model running things. This club remains in the 7th tier of English football but still attracts crowds of around 2,000 people.
FC United continuously advertise themselves as an alternative and an addition for Manchester United fans. We attended their recent win over Bamber Bridge and would recommend a visit to any United fans wanting a different matchday experience.
In 2021, a large scale protest broke out before a behind closed doors against Liverpool. This resulted in the game being postponed.
