Stockport keep their automatic promotion hopes alive

Isaac Olaofe scored a spectacular winner as Stockport beat Bolton to earn a double over their League One play-off rivals.

Wanderers, thrashed 5-0 earlier in the season, sensed little danger when Olaofe collected the ball on the left wing.

However, the striker turned away from Eoin Toal before racing into the area and firing past Nathan Baxter for his 10th goal of the season after 71 minutes.

Until then, Baxter, omitted from Bolton's previous 12 league games, celebrated his recall with superb saves from Benony Andresson, Kyle Wootton and Jayden Fevrier.

Wanderers, who were beaten for the second time in five days, rallied late on but Josh Sheehan and top scorer Aaron Collins were denied by Stockport goalkeeper Corey Addai.

Bolton will also look back on a late first-half incident as a potential game changer. Defender Kyle Knoyle had already been booked and committed several other fouls when he brought down John McAtee.

Referee Ben Toner opted not to give another caution, but Knoyle was replaced at half-time by the visitors.

Conor, a Bolton fan, told us: "I'd like to say that we were unlucky but in reality, we weren't. Fair play Stockport, 6-0 on aggregate is difficult to argue against. The manager must know what he needs to do now if he wants to get us over the line this season. I'm not sure if we can qualify for the play-offs but at least we have something to play for."

Daniel, another Bolton fan, added: "Why are we so inconsistent? It's so frustrating because we are awesome on our day, but just haven't got to the level enough this season."

Frankie was one of the Stockport fans in the away, and she was delighted with the win, she said: "We did a job on Bolton and fully deserved the win. We were solid at the back and produced one moment of class to get the win.  Whilst it's unlikely that we'll get automatic promotion, that win keeps our hopes alive."
