Football: Bournemouth 1 - 2 Manchester City

Image
City fight back to keep silverware hopes alive Manchester City kept their trophy ambitions intact with a comeback victory over Bournemouth, securing an FA Cup semi-final clash with Nottingham Forest. Author - Macca Evanilson’s scrappy 21st-minute finish put the hosts ahead at half-time, leaving Pep Guardiola staring down the possibility of his first trophyless season since his debut campaign at the club in 2016-17. City had chances to level before the break, but Erling Haaland endured a frustrating first half. The Norwegian saw his penalty saved by Kepa Arrizabalaga and squandered two further gilt-edged opportunities as Bournemouth’s intensity unsettled the visitors. Guardiola, however, made an immediate impact with his half-time changes. He introduced 20-year-old Nico O’Reilly for Abdukodir Khusanov, and within four minutes, the youngster (deployed at left-back) delivered a pinpoint cross for Haaland to tap in at the far post. Stockport County tightened their grip on play-off spot with hard-fought win over Burton Stockport County bolstered their League One play-off hopes with a tense victory over struggling Burton Albion at Edgeley Park. Author - Josh T Kick-off was slightly delayed as fans took longer than usual to make their way into the stands, but once the action got underway, the hosts wasted little time in asserting themselves. Burton keeper Max Crocombe did well to parry Will Collar’s effort, but Kyle Wootton reacted quickest to nod home the rebound in the eighth minute. Tanto Olaofe almost doubled the lead moments later, only to be denied by Crocombe, while at the other end, Stockport’s Corey Addai produced a sharp low stop to keep out Owen Dodgson. The visitors came agonisingly close to levelling just before the break, but Ethan Pye’s last-ditch block thwarted Charlie Webster from what looked like a certain goal. Rugby League: Hull KR 30 - 0 Leigh Leopards

Image
Ruthless Rovers hands Leopards their first defeat of the season Leigh Leopards remain second in the Super League table but suffered their first defeat of the season as Hull KR moved three points clear at the summit. Author - Michael Haldsworth Source | Super League YouTube Since losing to Leigh at Wembley in 2023, Rovers have turned the tide emphatically, winning all six meetings between the sides. Remarkably, Adrian Lam’s team have failed to score in each of their last three encounters. Rovers have built on last season’s Grand Final appearance with a powerful forward pack and a sharp, creative backline. Once again, Mikey Lewis, the reigning Man of Steel, was at the heart of their attacking play. He scored two tries, set up another, and kicked five goals in a standout performance. But this was far from a one-man show. Rovers controlled large spells of the game and barely allowed Leigh a sight of their try line. It was a day to forget for the Leopards, who must quickly regroup a...

Author - Liam C The in-form visitors took control early on, netting twice in the first half before adding a third midway through the second period. Goals from Ian Henderson and Jay Bird gave Dale hope, but they ultimately fell short. A closer look at what happened Jimmy McNulty made four changes to the side that started at Oldham, handing a debut to Michael Adu-Poku, while Ryan East, Ethan Ebanks-Landell and Jili Buyabu also came into the starting eleven. Football: Manchester United fans critical of new stadium plans

Image
The unveiling of plans for United's new stadium has been met with positivity in some areas.  Several matchgoing fans have voiced their displeasure at the announcement.  Author - Liam C Once building has started, it is expected to take five years to complete. This would mean that the 2030/2031 would probably be the last season to be played at Old Trafford if the project goes ahead.  The harshest critics of the plans have said that, at a time when Manchester United are having to make significant cutbacks, this feels massively inappropriate.  Other fans have been more concerned that more of the club's will soon be lost with a new stadium.  Click to read more about this recent announcement  What are United fans saying then? A late goal from Callum Hudson-Odoi put a dent in City's bid to qualify for next season's Champions League  With just seven minutes remaining in an otherwise uneventful encounter, Hudson-Odoi sparked scenes of jubilation at the City Ground as he latched onto a superb Morgan Gibbs-White pass before beating Ederson at his near post. Author - Macca Pre match scenes at the City Ground The result delivered a major blow to Manchester City's hopes of securing a Champions League spot, as Pep Guardiola's side struggled to break down Nottingham Forest's resolute defence despite enjoying the better chances before half-time. City's clearest opening of the first half came when Nico Gonzalez rattled the outside of Matz Sels' post with a powerful strike, but their attacking play often lacked the tempo and creativity needed to breach the hosts' backline. Forest, sensing an opportunity, came out with more purpose after the break. Nico Dominguez volleyed a cross fro...

Leigh went top of the Super League after an extra-time draw with Hull FC Their perfect start to the season is over, but they still climbed to the top of Super League after an electrifying draw with Hull FC at the MKM Stadium. Author - Peter Grainger It looked like the Leopards had the game under control when they led 12-6, with Hull down to 11 men after Aidan Sezer and Jordan Rapana were both sin-binned within five minutes. Football: Man United fans plan further protest against ownership

Image
Manchester United fans have once again been urged to wear black to protest against the ownership of their club. This idea has come from a significant supporters group, the 1958, who have told fans to wear black when they attend Sunday's match against Arsenal at Old Trafford. Author - Olivia T A spokesperson for the ground said: “The club is slowly dying before our eyes, on and off the pitch, and the blame lies squarely at the current ownership model. The club is facing financial Armageddon. Debt is the road to ruin." In recent months, several cost-cutting and fundraising measures have been implemented following Sir Jim Ratcliffe's INEOS group completing a minority share purchase of 27.7% on February 20 of last year. These measures include the recent decision to set all ticket prices at £66, regardless of age, as well as two rounds of redundancies. Ruben Amorim took over from Ten Hag in October, but there has been no improvement in the team's performance. The latest...
