One point gained or two dropped for Wigan?
James Collins salvaged a late point for Lincoln City, converting an 88th-minute penalty at the second attempt against Wigan Athletic.
Wigan started brightly, with Dale Taylor seeing an early effort deflected wide for a corner. But Lincoln came agonisingly close to a spectacular opener at the other end when Tom Bayliss curled a free-kick over the wall, only to see it crash against the crossbar.
The hosts suffered a major setback after 25 minutes when Silko Thomas was stretchered off following a lengthy stoppage for treatment to his left leg.
Despite the disruption, Wigan took the lead nine minutes before half-time. Taylor, on loan from Nottingham Forest, won possession and played in Jonny Smith, who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

However, Lincoln were handed a lifeline in the closing moments when James Carragher was penalised for holding Adam Jackson at a corner.
Sam Tickle saved Collins' initial penalty, but the striker reacted quickest to tuck away the rebound and ensure Lincoln left with a share of the spoils.

The Latics are currently 16th in the table and are essentially in no mans land this season. They are ten points off the play-offs and nine points clear of the relegation zone. The Wigan fans that I have spoken to want the manager to start experimenting with the playing squad a little bit more.
Since that match, they have signed forward Owen Dale on loan from Oxford United until the end of the season. Since joining the U's in February of last year, he has played 30 games and was a consistent member of the team that won promotion to the Championship. However, he has only appeared in 11 matches in the second tier so far this season, with four of those being starts.
