Rugby League: St Helens 82 - 0 Salford Red Devils
St Helens ran riot against depleted Salford in record-breaking Super League opener
A youthful and understrength Salford Red Devils were thrashed at the Totally Wicked Stadium.
For St Helens, Tristan Sailor marked his debut in stunning style, crossing four times as Saints ran in 15 tries. Morgan Knowles and Harry Robertson both grabbed braces, while Lewis Murphy and Kyle Feldt also got on the scoresheet in their first outings for the club. Jonny Lomax, Curtis Sironen, Mark Percival, Jack Batchelor, and George Delaney completed the demolition job.

A closer look at a bad night for Salford
Salford, still awaiting confirmation of their takeover and restricted by salary cap constraints, were only able to name a 16-man squad, featuring eight debutants.
Saints wasted no time asserting their dominance. Knowles bulldozed through a flimsy Salford defence inside five minutes, before Murphy finished off a slick team move just moments later. Percival converted the first but missed the second.
By the time Sailor darted over for a third try in the opening five minutes, the contest was effectively over. Sironen added a fourth soon after, latching onto a Lomax pass, while Robertson touched down in the right corner on 22 minutes after reacting sharply to Sailor’s searching kick.

Knowles and Robertson both grabbed their second tries before the break, with Knowles already equalling his total from the 2024 season in just 34 minutes.
The onslaught continued after half-time. Feldt slid over in the corner within a minute of the restart, with the video referee confirming the score. Lomax was next on the list, finishing off a Robertson pass, before Sailor added two more tries in quick succession – one following a flowing team move, the other a sharp burst for the corner on 56 minutes.

Sailor’s fourth arrived less than 10 minutes later as he sauntered through after a powerful break from Alex Walmsley. Percival then crossed following more slick play down the left, though he failed to convert his own try.
By the final whistle, Percival had slotted 11 conversions from 15 attempts, while Batchelor and Delaney added the final touches to an emphatic performance. Saints showed no mercy, underlining their title credentials while exposing Salford’s early-season struggles.
