Denis Law, the only Scotsman ever to be named the world's best player, passed away last month at the age of 84.

Sir Kenny Dalglish, who shares the record with him at 30 goals, was among those paying their respects as Denis Law was honoured in the city where he left an unforgettable legacy.

Former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was one of many past and present club figures who attended Tuesday’s funeral, delivering an emotional tribute during the service at Manchester Cathedral.

The funeral procession made its way from Old Trafford into the city centre, where hundreds of fans gathered to pay their respects. As the hearse passed the stadium where Law’s legendary achievements saw him immortalised in two statues, supporters reflected on his incredible impact.

One of those statues stands in the East Stand forecourt, depicting Law with his right arm raised in celebration, positioned between fellow United icons George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton as part of the famous ‘United Trinity’. This trio faces another statue, that of former manager Sir Matt Busby.

As the service began, the sound of bagpipes filled the air, a fitting tribute to the proud Scotsman from Aberdeen. Inside the packed cathedral, a mix of prayers, hymns, and heartfelt readings were shared, celebrating Law’s extraordinary life.

Among those in attendance were United’s head coach Ruben Amorim, captain Bruno Fernandes, and long-serving defender Harry Maguire. Women’s team manager Marc Skinner and captain Maya Le Tissier also paid their respects. Former Manchester City team-mate Mike Summerbee was present too, recognising Law’s contributions to both clubs during his career, which also included spells with Huddersfield and Italian side Torino.
