Manchester City 8 - 0 Salford City

An easy day for Manchester City as they thrashed League Two Salford City

Manchester City breezed into the fourth round of the FA Cup with an emphatic 8-0 victory over League Two side Salford City at the Etihad Stadium, powered by a James McAtee hat-trick.

Jeremy Doku chipped in with a brace, Jack Grealish ended his lengthy goal drought, and young talents Divin Mubama and Nico O'Reilly also found the net in a completely one-sided affair.

City’s ruthlessness was on full display as a much-rotated team delighted their fans with a dominant performance against Salford, a club owned by the famous ‘Class of 92’.

Gary Neville, one of the co-owners and a former Manchester United star, became a target for relentless taunts despite not being in attendance. Meanwhile, his former teammates Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes had to endure all of this from the stands.

Pep Guardiola made nine changes to the side that recently swept past West Ham, giving a debut to 20-year-old Mubama and valuable minutes to 19-year-olds O'Reilly and Jahmai Simpson-Pusey. Simpson-Pusey, one of only two natural defenders alongside Nathan Aké, highlighted Guardiola’s confidence in his squad depth, with big names like Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, and Phil Foden watching from the bench.

City wasted no time taking control, with Matheus Nunes winning possession in the eighth minute and setting up Grealish, who fed Doku to smash home from a tight angle. Twelve minutes later, Savinho’s pass to Nunes ended with Mubama sliding in for a simple finish.

Salford did have brief moments to respond, with Kylian Kouassi testing Ederson and narrowly missing from a pinpoint Hakeeb Adelakun cross. Kevin Berkoe also scuffed an effort, but City quickly turned the screw.

Doku's dazzling run set up O'Reilly for his first senior goal, and Grealish added City’s fourth just after the break, converting a penalty he won following a foul by Ossama Ashley. Moments earlier, he had missed an open-play chance teed up by Mubama.

City’s fifth came from a slick team move, with Doku’s first-time cross expertly guided in by McAtee. Salford’s misery deepened when Curtis Tilt handled a Doku shot in the box, and the Belgian coolly dispatched the resulting penalty.

McAtee added two more clinical finishes—one set up by Foden and another by Grealish—to complete his hat-trick.
