What's going wrong at City and United?
It's been an awful Christmas so far for United and City
Let's explore what has been going wrong
Man City: Champions to nowhere
There's an obvious argument now that City's players are too old and maybe the manager should have made more changes to the squad in the summer. However, it would’ve been a tremendous bit of bravery for Pep to sell a club legend in order to get playing time for some of the ex-City players now thriving elsewhere.
Even the 'younger' ones are struggling. Erling Haaland scored 10 goals in the first five matches of the Premier League season, putting him on pace to break his own single-season goals record. However, he has only scored three times in the subsequent 13 games and has provided just one assist. Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah has taken the lead in goals scored this season.
Under Pep Guardiola, City has consistently scored the most goals and generated the highest expected goals in the league. What transformed them into formidable opponents as Guardiola's reign progressed was their ability to concede very few chances to the opposition.

Over to Old Trafford
The circus has just continued. That was how one United described their last few games. Their defensive frailties have become a recurring theme, with Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, and Bournemouth also exploiting their vulnerability to balls into the box during a woeful run of five defeats in their last seven games across all competitions.
What was anticipated to be a season of progress under new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe at Old Trafford is now on the verge of chaos. For the moment, the dark humor surrounding a potential relegation battle is just a joke. However, with United currently only eight points above the relegation zone and challenging matches against Newcastle at home and Liverpool at Anfield approaching, this joke could soon become a painful reality. Their only positive performance was that 2-1 win away at Manchester City.
Super Reds contributor Liam C said on his Facebook: "We can't sack another manager so what comes next for us? Those last two performances against Bournemouth and Wolves were as bad as anything under Ten Hag.
