Education: We explore the different types of apprenticeships and the benefits
We explore the benefits of taking on an apprenticeship
An apprenticeship is a paid job where the employee learns and gains valuable experiences.
Alongside on-the-job training, apprentices spend at least 20% of their working hours completing classroom-based learning with a college, university or training provider which leads to a nationally recognised qualification.
An apprenticeship includes:
- paid employment with holiday leave
- hands-on-experience in a sector/role of interest
- at least 20% off-the-job training
- formal assessment which leads to a nationally recognised qualification
There are many types of apprenticeships

You can also complete a degree apprenticeship through Manchester Metropolitan University. You can meet one of their recent graduates in the video below. The best thing about a degree apprenticeship is that you can earn a qualification that is the same as a standard university qualification.
Manchester Metropolitan University is a leading provider of degree apprenticeships. They partner with over 540 national and local organisations to give apprentices the opportunity to earn while they learn, and to develop the skills employers want and need.

Two Bury College apprentices and their employer have recently spoken passionately about the benefits of apprenticeships.
Maddison Trickett and Anya Harris, both former Alder Grange School pupils, are two Hairdressing Level 2 apprentices currently thriving at Spectrum One in Haslingden and are looking to progress their careers.
On the Bury College website, they say: "An apprenticeship is a real job where you learn, gain experience and get paid. By the end of an apprenticeship, you will have the right skills and knowledge needed for your chosen career. You can explore their range of apprenticeships here: https://burycollege.ac.uk/full-time/apprenticeships/apprenticeships-the-facts
There is also a number of apprenticeships that you take on in the football world
According to the Government website: "There are loads of apprenticeship opportunities to choose from that will allow you to work in the industry, but if you want to get paid to play the game you love while building the foundations for a rewarding career you could opt for a Sports Coaching or Sporting Excellence Professional apprenticeship."
